Project Management – transforming ideas into reality!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

The first thing that comes to mind when discussing Project Management is the famous quote by Benjamin Franklin “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”.

Project Management is essential in any industry. Organizations need a structured approach to plan and organise projects, coordinate teams, and monitor and optimise their implementation processes.

Effective project management also involves research and analysis of the relevant market as well as needs analysis and alignment of product roadmaps to strategic goals. These practices add to the success of a product and ensure customer satisfaction.

What do Project Managers actually do?

As per Greg Cimmarrusti, “being a Project Manager is like being an artist, you have the different colored process streams combining into a work of art”. Romantic as it may sound, it is not much different from what a Project Manager really does.

The role holder identifies and satisfies customer needs by translating them into system requirements. It is their responsibility to ensure that the team have an essential understanding of those, and that they are to establish relevant and optimised solutions. To achieve the desired results and reach to a quality solution, the Project Manager must synchronise the team and monitor the implementation daily.

Project Managers should also ensure the sustainability and the viability of a project by ensuring that the features are in line with the current market trends and needs. Moreover, they should be able to manage the risk and any change that may occur during the development effectively. Finally, Project Managers should be ready to provide detailed status reports about their projects to any relevant stakeholder, including the customers and the management of their company.

Project Management done right.

When discussing Project Management someone may think of it as a complex, un-creative, and directive role that only follows a plan, requirements are met as per the initial client agreement, and that projects remain within the agreed scope and budget.

In reality, Project Management is a quite complex and challenging career and it requires a strong skill set to succeed. At the same time though, it can be highly satisfying and rewarding job as it allows individuals to transform ideas into reality and make a positive impact on other people’s lives. As Bill Owens said, “Leadership offers an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, no matter what the project.”.
